PC: visitnorway.com

If you're looking for a unique way to experience Norway's stunning fjords, look no further than the Flåmsbana railway. This historic train journey takes you through some of the most breathtaking scenery in the world and is a must-see for any traveler to Norway.

We are lucky to have a chance to visit this stunning natural beauty through the Flåmsbana Railway track. We are headed towards Flåm from a station called Myrdal. I am sharing my experience with you, hoping you will have the scenic journey on your bucket list.

We are jumped into the historic journey from Myrdal

The Flåmsbana railway was built in the early 20th century to transport goods and passengers from the fjord town of Flåm to the high plateau of Myrdal. Today, the railway still operates, carrying thousands of visitors annually through western Norway's spectacular mountains and valleys.

How to Get There?

The Flåmsbana railway is easily accessible from several major cities in Norway. The closest city is Bergen, which is only a few hours away by train, ferry, or car. From Bergen, you can take a train or bus to the town of Flåm, which is where the Flåmsbana railway begins. You can take a ferry from Bergen too. We took the ferry from Flåm to Bergen, and I plan to write another blog. There is a direct rail link between the capital city of Oslo and Bergen. So, you can take the Bergen-directed train from Oslo Central Station to a station called Myrdal. From there, you can take the Flåmsbana railway up to Flåm. You can book your ticket through the vy.no website.

The best time to visit Flåmsbana is during the summer months, from May to September. During this time, the weather is mild, and the scenery is at its most vibrant. However, be aware that this is also the busiest time of year, so be sure to book your tickets in advance to avoid disappointment.

However, if you like winter person and want to explore it during snowy Norwegian winter, you can book your ticket without any rush. But don't forget to bring warm clothes that are comfortable for Norwegian winter.

We visited Flåm in July, the best time to explore Norwegian nature if you are from a tropical or sub-tropical country. Our journey started from Oslo, where we boarded the Oslo-Bergen train. At midday, we get off the train at a station called Myrdal, from where you can take the Flåmsbana rail. We also took the historic train from Myrdal to Flåm. Not only the Flåmsbana railway but also spent two days at Flåm, where there are many activities you can do. I attached a few of the must-seeing attractions we did during our stay at Flåm.

Flåmsbana and majestic Kjosfossen Waterfall: This stunning waterfall is one of the highlights of the Flåmsbana journey. The train stops here, so you can take a closer look and snap some photos.
